Ooty Lake is an artificial lake located in the heart of Ooty. The streams of water which used to flow down from the surrounding mountains was dammed to form the current lake. The lake has now shrunk from its original size, but still spreads across 65 acres.
At the far end of the lake is a boat house. There are several types of boats that can be hired: pedal, row or motor boats. The boat ride over Ooty lake is very enjoyable as well as picturesque due to the huge eucalyptus trees surrounding the lake.
Apart from hiring the boats from the boat house, this place also has several other attractions that draws the crowd from all over the town, and make this an ideal “picnic” spot. At the boat house end of the lake, you can take a pony ride, kids can enjoy on a toy train, a mini-garden, a deer park, a thread garden (where several designs of natural looking flowers and plants are made of threads) and numerous small eateries.
