Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary

Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary is located in North Wayanad region, and is neighbored by Nagarhole Wildlife Sanctuary (Rajiv Gandhi National Park) in Karnataka. Tholpetty Forest Department organizes various programs that interest wildlife enthusiasts. Be it 2-3 hour Jeep Safari (twice a day), 2 hour trek inside the forest (when the number of visitors is less), watch tower stay (permission required) and so on. Tholpetty has wide variety of wildlife as well as birdlife. The safari is conducted on a fixed trail, and spotting the wildlife here is purely by luck. While most of the safari takers return disappointed, there are instances where they have spotted tigers, elephants among others. It is common to find peacocks, wood-peckers, parakeets, giant malabar squirrels, spotted deers, and sometimes bisons.
