Doddabetta is the highest peak in the Nilgiris region. The peak is at a height of 2630m/8650ft. Doddabetta is located at around 10 km from Ooty. The curvy roads amidst the tea plantation will make the drive to Doddabetta an awesome experience. The last 3 kilometers of the drive is amazing, with the road passing through very tall trees giving a shady and a soothing drive!

On a clear day, you can witness amazing views of Coimbatore plains on one side, Ooty town and Nilgiri Forests on the another side, and you can also see flat lands of Mysore. However, as Doddabetta is at such a height, you should be really lucky to reach there on a day when clouds don’t block any of the views.
Route to Doddabetta
You can also see a “Telescope House” on the peak. Visitors can get better (and more “closer”) views of the valley, and other prominent landmarks through the telescope. During the weekends of summer (which is the peak season to visit Ooty), you can see long queue for the telescope, and you may have to spend more than half an hour to get to the telescopic view!
Visitors can also take a small walk (about 500m) along the well laid steps that descend behind the telescope house. As you walk along the steps, you can see more view points from where you can get the birds’ eye view of Ooty town and the Nilgiri range. There are several rocks of various sizes, and trees in various shapes, which makes this place a fun-photography paradise. You can see all the visitors posing at various locations along this stretch.
Earlier this used to be a trek route and several adventurists used to explore this route on their own to get to the bottom. However, due to the steep and slippery terrain (and few fatal incidents), the area is now covered with a wire fence, so that visitors cannot get beyond a certain point.
