Dolphin’s Nose
Dolphin’s Nose? At a height of over 1000 feet above sea level? You may be wondering! Yes, a unique rock formation that protrudes out of a cliff resembles the nose of a dolphin, and hence this place is named so. This is a very beautiful view point that offers amazing views of Nilgiri mountain ranges, and the thick forests around.
Dolphin’s Nose view point also offers you a view of Catherine Falls at a distance. To reach the falls, you need to drive for another 30 km, but the view from Dolphin’s Nose is the best view that you can get. If you carefully observe, there is a view point very close to the falls, but a local said that prior permission is required to reach that view point.
Apart from the view point, and the falls, one thing that you will remember about Dolphin’s Nose for a long time, is the drive. The narrow road is built with interlocks (neither asphalt/tar nor concrete) to let the gentle streams of water flow from one side of the road to the other during monsoon. The road itself turns around several tea estates. A thin layer of mist is enough to get the visibility of the road down to 1-2 meters.
