Pookode Lake

Pookode Lake is a picturesque fresh water lake located between the evergreen forests of Wayanad. The lake is spread over 13 acres and has a depth ranging from 5 to 40 meters. The calm and peaceful environment around the lake is sure going to leave you mesmerized. The greenery surrounding the lake is reflected on the water, and you will just see greenery all around!

Boating at Pookode Lake

The lake also has several attractions like an aquarium, elephant ride, children’s park, shopping center and a boating house. These attractions make Pookode Lake an ideal picnic spot. You can hire a pedal boat on Pookode Lake, and enjoy boating amidst the greenery. On weekends (specially on long weekends), Pookode Lake remains crowded throughout the day. If you happen to visit Wayanad during one of the longer holiday weekends, then you should visit the lake very early (around 9 AM) to avoid wasting time in ticketing and boating queues.

The lake is surrounded skirted by a walkway where you can stroll around the lake enjoying the peaceful and soothing environment. Since most of the crowd remains near the boat house and other attractions, walking around the lake is a good way to get away from the bustling “picnic” crowd, but still enjoy the beauty of natural surroundings. You can also get close to the Lotus flowers that are found in abundance on the lake.

The lake is also the origin of River Panamaram, which later joins River Kabini and eventually to River Cauvery. Pookode Lake is located 1 km away from the Wayanad – Calicut highway and about 14 km from Kalpetta.
