Attukkad Falls (also spelled Attukkal Falls) is located at a distance of 8 km from the town of Munnar. It is one of the many waterfalls found in this area, and the monsoon enhances the beauty of this waterfalls. The route to the falls is amidst the tea plantations, and that makes the drive to the falls much more memorable. In fact, the best view of the falls is from a view point that is located en-route to the falls. It is a treat to watch the waterfalls that is surrounded by dark green jungle, with a white patch of waterfall making loud noise!
When you get to the base of the falls, you will realize that you cannot get the view of the waterfall itself! The water from the falls flows downstream while taking a complete left turn, and drops down further in a rocky terrain at multiple layers across several streams. When you get close to the falls, you can only get this view, which is yet another beauty in itself!
At the base of the falls, you can see several boards that warn you against getting into the water, or venturing into the rocks that can take you closer to the water. While it is tempting to get into the water, especially when the water levels are lower, it is advisable not to get there, as the boards are there for a reason!
There are also several trek routes that start from the base of the falls that can take you to the bigger falls that is not visible from the base. However, it is best advised to hire a local guide before setting out that expedition.
