Lakkidi View Point, Wayanad
Lakkidi View Point is one of the popular viewpoints in Wayanad, offering a bird’s-eye view of the winding Thamarassery Ghat Road that connects Kozhikode with the hill district. Often regarded as the gateway to Wayanad when travelling from Kozhikode, Lakkidi welcomes visitors with misty hills, thick greenery and views of the road snaking through the forest below.
A paved pathway beside the viewpoint allows you to stop and enjoy the scenery. On clear days, you can see the hairpin bends and stretches of road cutting through the hills. When mist rolls in, the landscape takes on a different appearance, with sections of the valley and road disappearing into the clouds.
Thamarassery Churam – The Ghat Road to Wayanad
The drive through Thamarassery Churam is an experience in itself. This approximately 12-km ghat section has nine hairpin bends and winds through forested hills as it descends towards Adivaram in Kozhikode district.
The narrow road, sharp bends and changing weather mean that the journey can take longer than expected. Mist is common in this area, sometimes reducing visibility considerably. Drive carefully, particularly around the hairpin bends, and avoid stopping at unsafe points to take photographs.
You may also encounter monkeys along the route. Although they sometimes approach vehicles expecting food, avoid feeding them. Feeding wildlife can encourage animals to approach traffic and create dangerous situations for both visitors and the animals.
How to Reach Lakkidi View Point
Lakkidi View Point is located approximately 15 km from Kalpetta and around 5 km from Vythiri, along the Kozhikode–Mysuru highway (NH 766).
If you are travelling to Wayanad from Kozhikode, you will pass through the Lakkidi area after driving up Thamarassery Churam. The viewpoint is a convenient stop to enjoy the view before continuing into Wayanad.
If you are already staying in Wayanad, you can drive from Kalpetta or Vythiri to visit the viewpoint. You can also continue along the ghat road towards Adivaram for the experience of driving through its nine hairpin bends, but take extra care in misty or rainy conditions.
Best Time to Visit Lakkidi View Point
Lakkidi is known for its mist and lush green surroundings. The monsoon and the months following it can bring particularly green scenery, although heavy rain and thick fog may limit visibility.
For the best chance of enjoying the views, visit when the weather is reasonably clear. If the valley is covered in mist, wait a little if it is safe to do so; visibility can change quickly in the hills.
