St. Paul’s Church

St. Paul’s Church in Diu Island is the only functioning church that is built by the Portuguese. The construction of the church began in 1601, and took 9 years to complete. St Paul’s Church is dedicated to Our Lady of Immaculate Conception.

St Paul’s Church is considered to be the best example of baroque architecture in India. The detailing and the intricacy of the design of this church attracts several visitors. The interior of the church has several intricately carved wood design that would leave you awestruck. The image of St. Mary at the church is said to be carved out of a single piece of Burmese teak. The inside of the church also has several oil paintings from the bygone era.

Photography is not allowed inside the church. However, the intricacy of the work, the designs, and the artwork will still remain afresh in memory! St. Paul’s church is definitely worth a visit if you are around Diu.
