Nakki Lake is located in the heart of the town of Mount Abu. This is an artificial lake located at an elevation of 1200 m / 3900 ft, and it has many interesting legends behind the formation of the lake itself. Irrespective of how the lake was formed, the lake itself is very picturesque, pristine and clean making it one of the most charming attractions of Mount Abu.
According to one legend, the lake was dug up by Gods using their nails. This was done for the protection against demon ‘Bashkali’. The name Nakki Lake is derived from this story, as the word “Nakk” translates to nail. There is another legend that has a romantic story behind it. The love story was of Rasia Balam, a sculptor of Dilwara Jain Temple. He liked the then king’s daughter, Kunwari Kanya. King had announced a challenge that who ever dug up a lake overnight, he would get his daughter married to that person. Hearing this Rasia Balam dug up the lake overnight with his nails! It is believed that even after he accepted and completed the challenge, the queen was against the marriage, and it never happened!
There are various entertainment activities that can entertain a visitor at Nakki Lake. Boating is the most common activity that every visitor enjoys.
