Nakki Lake

Nakki Lake is located in the heart of the town of Mount Abu. This is an artificial lake located at an elevation of 1200 m / 3900 ft, and it has many interesting legends behind the formation of the lake itself. Irrespective of how the lake was formed, the lake itself is very picturesque, pristine and clean making it one of the most charming attractions of Mount Abu.

According to one legend, the lake was dug up by Gods using their nails. This was done for the protection against demon ‘Bashkali’. The name Nakki Lake is derived from this story, as the word “Nakk” translates to nail. There is another legend that has a romantic story behind it. The love story was of Rasia Balam, a sculptor of Dilwara Jain Temple. He liked the then king’s daughter, Kunwari Kanya. King had announced a challenge that who ever dug up a lake overnight, he would get his daughter married to that person. Hearing this Rasia Balam dug up the lake overnight with his nails! It is believed that even after he accepted and completed the challenge, the queen was against the marriage, and it never happened!

There are various entertainment activities that can entertain a visitor at Nakki Lake. Boating is the most common activity that every visitor enjoys. Row and pedal boating options are available, and it is really refreshing to go around the lake, and watch the picturesque hills that surround the lake. There are small eateries that sell street food near the boating ticket counter. There are also few options for shopping small items, be it clothing, footwear, or toys for kids and so on. You can also find a restaurant built on top the lake!

Temple dedicated to India!

Strolling around Nakki lake is another popular option for those who want to be away from the touristy crowd. You explore some lesser known places by strolling around the lake. Being surrounded by rocky terrain, the walk around the lake will take you to a couple of rocks that resemble amphibians. You can spot a Toad’s Rock that resembles a toad, and a Turtle rock that resembles a turtle. You can also visit Champaa Cave, a cave where Swami Vivekananda is believed to have meditated! A narrow scenic walking path will take you from Nakki Lake / Champaa Cave to Sunset Point!
