Lakkidi View Point

Lakkidi View Point is the gateway to Wayanad when you enter from Calicut/Kozhikode. A huge arch welcomes you to Wayanad here, and next to the arch, there is a nicely paved footpath, which offers a birds’ eye view of the amazing ghat road to/from Calicut called ‘Thamarassery Churam’. The narrow ghat road has thick forests on both sides that is home to several animal and bird species!

The 12 km ghat from Lakkidi passes through 9 hair pin bends, and dense forests, and descends to Adivaram. As the area is covered by mist for most part of the year, and due to the narrow hair pin bends, it takes 30-40 minutes to cover the 12 km ghat road. You will also be interrupted by many monkeys that crosses the narrow roads. If you slow down your vehicle, they come close to the vehicle expecting some food to be thrown at them!

Lakkidi View point is located 15 km from Kalpetta which is the district head quarters of Wayanad. If you are visiting Wayanad from Calicut/Kozhikode, you will pass through this view point (just few meters after the 9th and last hair pin bend). Otherwise, you can drive about 15 km on the Calicut highway to reach this place. You can continue to drive through the 12 km ghat road, just to experience the drive. And if the route is filled with mist, it becomes much more exciting (but be careful enough to ensure a safe drive as mist challenges the visibility)!
